Liberty North Men's Basketball



The “A” team defeated North Kansas City 48-42 to finish third in the highly competitive Liberty North Invitational. Trailing by 8 points at halftime and by 4 points at the end of the 3rd Qtr. the Eagles evened up the game with 5 minutes left in regulation. The Eagles then went on an 8-0 run after 4 consecutive steals on defense. NKC nailed back to back 3 pointers to get within 2 points, but it was too late as the Eagles scored on two Michael Mosely free throws and on a full court inbounds play from Jake Van Dyne to Nate Chester who got a breakaway layup. Chester got a layup, knocked down a three and made 2 free throws during the late run and led all scorers. Van Dyne was the top rebounder and second leading scorer. The “A” team finished the season strong winning 5 of their last 6 games to finish with an overall record of 14-8.



The Freshman Boys B basketball team showcased their season long improvement by playing a complete game to beat the Staley Falcons 45-36, and take 5th in the Park Hill South Tournament. Alec Liska led all scorers with 14 points. Luke Mathews had 9 and Trevor Lerit finished with 8.  The Freshman B Team finished the season strong, winning 4 of their last 5 games to end the year with a record of 10-9.


“A” Team In The LN Invitational


After 5 straight wins, the Freshman Boys A basketball team lost a gut-wrenching game to the Park Hill Trojans in the Semi-Finals of the Liberty North Invitational Tournament. The Eagles trailed by 10 points (44-34) with 4 minutes remaining before going on a great run that included pressure defense, deep 3 pointers, clutch free throws by post player Garrett Linn and a contested layup by point guard Nate Chester with 1 second left on the game clock. The Eagles ran out of gas in overtime though and lost 53-44. Nate Chester led all scorers with 26 points. Jake Van Dyne had 8 points and Garrett Linn contributed 6 points.


The loss drops the A team record to 13-8 puts them in the Third Place game of the tournament versus NKC at 6:15PM on Thursday-February 2nd. This will be the Freshman Eagles final game of the season.
